1/100 Gundam Astray Gold Frame

This model was a limited release back around 2005 or so. It is basically a gold plated version of the Red Frame. Nothing more, nothing less. I bought this kit in New York City’s Chinatown for around $30 ^_^. You won’t even be able to find this model on ebay now but I’m sure a can of gold spray paint and a regular 1/100 Astray Red Frame can produce the same or better results.

Two modifications I did to my Gold Frame include painting the chin gold (which I can actually swap with the extra spare chin that came with my Gold Frame Amatsu) and replacing the black chest piece with the white one from my Red Frame Second L (yes, Red Frame Second L). This makes the model look more pure with its all white and gold color scheme. I deliberately left out the panel lines for that effect as well.

The original 1/100 Red Frame was praised for its MG-like articulation and that was pretty impressive at the time. The construction also have semi-MG gimmicks such as the gold parts actually serve as an inner frame, the feet can bend, and the arms can twist, and other little stuff that makes this model great. Being just a “recolor”, the Gold Frame can easily pose just as well. It’ll be a crime to not pose this model with the Gerbera Straight! The hands it come with are fixed so the weapons it holds are secured the whole time. The Gold Frame, along with the Red Frame, are my favorite non-MG 1/100 Gundams.

Forgive me for the poor lighting on this model >_<

  1. rk, i haven’t been back to NYC in the last 5-ish years now so things probably changed a bit. My favorite place for Gundams in Chinatown is called Elizabeth Center. It’s underneath a clinic next to a police station on elizabeth st.

  2. Hi there,

Thinking of buying maybe 1 set for myself and sell another 2 on ebay :P
